SUMMARY
As co-owner of The Rabbit Hole,
a quirky-cool Minneapolis coffee
shop, Shay O'Hanlon finds life highly
caffeinated but far from dangerous.
That is, until her lifelong friend
Coop becomes a murder suspect. The

boss and the unsavory owner of The
Bingo Barge, a sleazy gambling boat
on the Mississippi. The weapon?
Kinky's lucky bronzed bingo marker.
While unearthing clues to absolve
Coop, Shay encounters Mafia goons
hunting for some extremely valuable
nuts. Looking for the murderer without
help from the cops proves riskyespecially
with distracting sparks flying between
Shay and the beautiful yet fierce
Detective Bordeaux. When Shay's
elderly friend and landlady is held
for ransom by the mob, all bets
are off. Can Shay find the killer
before the stakes get any higher?

"A winner. This
is the author's maiden voyage, but
you would never know it without
reading Ellen Hart's blurb on the
back cover. Chandler introduces
Shay O'Hanlon, co-owner of a Minneapolis
coffee house. Shay makes the rapid
transition from barista to sleuth
when a good friend is accused of
murder. What on earth is the connection
among murder, bingo and barge? Pick
this one up to find out. Let me
assure you that you won't be taking
a gamble on reading this delightful
romp."

REVIEW, May 2011
"Local author
Jessie Chandler launches her first
Shay O'Hanlan caper with panache.
Shay, owner of The Rabbit Hole,
a caffeine-cool Minneapolis coffee
café, is plunged into intrigue
and mayhem when her childhood friend,
Coop, becomes a murder suspect,
and begs her protection. Chandler
is never at a loss for a quirky
name or bizarre venue: Coop is accused
of offing Kinky, former boss and
owner of the Pig's Eye Bingo Barge,
adding insult to murder by doing
him in with a bronzed bingo dauber,
itself a token of an earlier huge
win at the Magical Pond, an Indian
gaming casino out west of the Twin
Cities. Add to this mix Shay's business
partner, Kate; Shay's landlord/mentor,
Mad Knitter Eddy; gorgeous Homicide
Detective JT Johnson, whose steely
eyes and lush lips make Shay's heart
go pitter-patter; assorted sociopaths;
and an adopted snaggletoothed junkyard
dog. Coffee, romance, murder, and
dog all make for Minnesota nice-nice."

"Bingo Barge
Murder is a solid first entry
in the Shay O'Hanlon mystery series.
Chandler writes with a wonderful
sense of place, plenty of humor,
and a crisp pace. The best part
for me were the characters, which
were so richly drawn that they felt
like instant friends. This is a
great read from the very first page!"

do you get if you if you line up
Shay O'Hanlon, owner of a café
called the Rabbit Hole, a scrumptious
police detective named JT Bordeaux,
a computer genius drama queen, and
a murder at the Pig's Eye Bingo
Barge? If you said a rollicking,
fast-paced blackout game of mystery
and suspense, I'd have to yell-BINGO!"

happens to me, I want Shay O'Hanlon
on my side! Bingo Barge Murder
is a fun read with an emotional

I hope this is just the first of

BOOK
SUMMARY
Add one strangely valuable six-foot,
neon-green stuffed snake, a klepto
residential duct cleaner, a couple
of thugs, and what do you have?
A rollicking race that leads Shay
O'Hanlon and friends from Minneapolis
to New Orleans and back, with
a stop at the Cafe Du Monde, an
up close and personal view of
the interior of a freezer on a
mobile ice cream cart, a heart-pounding
visit to a casket manufacturing
plant, and a self-induced car
wreck.
Throw in a little burgling at
the home of a well-respected Minnesota
philanthropist, a dangerously
errant bottle of vodka, a bear
stuffed full of $100 bills, a
hot Latin professor, a bloodhound
named Bogey, a rookie federal
agent, and what do you get? One
hell of a mess.
The big question: Will Shay and
Co. make it out alive from the
clutches of one of the deadliest
Mexican cartels around?

Family friend Baz may not be
Shay's favorite person, but when
he gets in trouble, she begrudgingly
rescues him. Baz's latest errors
of judgment (he's a kleptomaniac
who lifted a stuffed toy snake
from a customer's house) have
now endangered three beloved family
members vacationing in New Orleans
with the snake. So it's off to
the Crescent City where the loved
ones are found and the snake recovered.
Then the bad guys kidnap Shay
and her friends. Motive? That
toy snake is stuffed with drug-dealing
money. In comic fashion, Shay
and company escape and hightail
it back to Minneapolis. Shay calls
in a favor with the police department
and is put in touch with a professor
who brings her up to speed on
how drug cartels work. Improbably,
Shay and her friends have muddled
into the midst of a major drug
operation. The challenge now is
survival. VERDICT The sophomore
outing for lesbian coffee shop
owner Shay (Bingo Barge Murder)
and her entourage of loveable
and multigenerational characters
is just right for those looking
for a madcap romp. Think Rita
Lakin and Don Bruns for compatible
authors.
~Library Journal, May 2012

The set-up of this story is that
heroine Shay feels obligated to
help an old friend who gets into
the darnedest death-defying situations
which ensnare her. This time Baz
(Basil) steals a stuffed snake
after cleaning out ducts on his
job for Ducky Ducts. This isn't
the first time he's taken away
a souvenir while on the job. The
snake, made by Hands On Toy Company,
is stuffed alright--with money.
Baz's Aunt Agnes and her two
companions, Edwina (Eddy) and
Rocky, take the snake with them
on vacation to New Orleans. The
cartel is after them, and Shay
has to save her friends. Shay
leaves Minneapolis with her friends,
Coop and Baz, to rescue them.
This is a fast-moving tale. Soon
the six of them are involved in
non-stop running from the bad
guys, being caught, escaping,
with the cycle starting all over.
It turns out the snake is only
the tip of the iceberg.
Great cast of characters along
with Kate and Shay's girlfriend
JT, and Shay's four-legged drooling,
long-tongued Dawg. Lots of laughs.

"Jessie Chandler
doesn't just write twists in this
novel, she writes twists within
twists. Scaly thugs, venomous crime
bosses, and the mingled scents of
jasmine and gunsmoke constrict tighter
and tighter around tenacious Shay
as she follows the mystery to its
surprising conclusion. Hide and
Snake Murder is a unique story
of zany friendship, tentative romance,
and the deadly face of today's underworld."
~Elizabeth Sims, author of The
